This is the PTO stage 1 project summary report for the Marine Design International NEAPED project. This project investigates the feasibility of technology transfer from the automotive industry to the wave energy sector. In recent years, great advances have been made in the development of highly reliable, efficient and low cost drive train technology for the growing electric vehicle market.

The NEAPED project will use the latest mass produced electric vehicle technology as the basis for a wave energy PTO. The objective is to transfer 'best in class' automotive performance, efficiency and reliability to deliver a step change reduction in the levelised cost of energy of wave energy converters.
