This project aimed to deliver a highly reliable PTO solution using innovative Cascade rack and pinion gearbox technology offering a step-change improvement in performance and cost to the wave energy sector.

The unique PTO technology has been taken through the next step of structured verification, guided by best practice support from EMEC, the experience from offshore power generation company Iberdrola Engineering and by the expertise in cost modelling of University of Edinburgh. An advanced Hardware-in-the-loop test rig was developed for dry verification of PTOs on-land, significantly de-risking the following ocean testing of the HiDrive technology.

CorPower Ocean tested their C3 wave buoy in Orkney during 2018 following extensive dry testing in Sweden. At the 2018 WES Annual Conference CorPower shared the experiences and some of the lessons which can be learnt to help other developers achieve success more easily.
