The Power Take-Off (PTO) programme was Wave Energy Scotland’s first call, which aims to develop the technology for primary conversion of mechanical energy to electrical power. The call opened in March 2015, with applications awarded for entry into Stages 1, 2 and 3 for PTOs which offered significant improvements over existing state-of-the-art technologies.

This package of documents covers the full set of requirements for the PTO programme.

Please note; entries into the PTO Programme have now closed. Projects that were originally accepted into the programme will progress into future stages through closed competitions.

PTO - Original Entry - Competition Specification and Guidance outlines the competition, and provides guidance describing the requirements for a Stages 1, 2 and 3 of a PTO project, along with expected activities and outcomes that should be completed. General background on the economic challenges faced by the wave energy sector, target outcome metrics, suitable test facilities and device classifications is also provided.

PTO - Stage Gate 1-2 - Competition Specification and Guidance provides guidance describing the requirements to transition between Stage 1 and 2 of a PTO project, along with expected activities and outcomes that should be completed in Stage 2. This was issued in May 2016.

PTO - Stage Gate 2-3 - Competition Specification and Guidance provides guidance describing the requirements to transition between Stage 2 and 3 of a PTO project, along with expected activities and outcomes that should be completed in Stage 3. This was issued in December 2016.

Please note that this call is CLOSED. Requirements for future calls on a similar topic will differ from the documents available here.
