NWEC Stage 2 - Scope of Requirements and Guidance document covers the requirements for Stage 2 of the NWEC. It outlines the competition, and provides detailed guidance describing the scope of requirements for a Stage 2 NWEC project. This includes the expected activities and outcomes that should be completed on the core workstreams of engineering development, and scale model testing and simulation. General background on the economic challenges faced by the wave energy sector, target outcome metrics, suitable test facilities (as of January 2017) and device classifications is also provided.

NW21 – Standardised Sea States and Testing Requirements outlines the process and the conditions to be used for the standardised sea states during the WES mandatory performance tank testing during the NWEC Stage 2 Programme. Please note, extreme and fatigue seas for load characterisation are not covered by WES.

The tests outlined will expand upon those completed during NWEC Stage 1, and will provide comparable data for the model prototype to allow comparison and conclusions to be drawn on the improvements available through sophisticated control, design optimisation and operational refinement.

It will ensure a competitive appraisal of technology, as required by the Pre-Commercial Procurement process, and will inform the Engineering Development activities, which form the criteria for stage gate progression to NWEC Stage 3.

Please note that this call is CLOSED. Requirements for future calls on a similar topic will differ from the documents available here.
